With 25 goals and 20 assists as a sophomore, Eden Prairie forward Sydney Langseth was already known as a consistent offensive threat.

Now a junior, Langseth’s spotlight grows a bit larger. So far this season, the Minnesota State-Mankato commit has embraced the spotlight – and then some.

Through Eden Prairie’s first two games she has six goals. Two of which came Thursday night in her team’s home opener as Eden Prairie downed Rochester Lourdes 3-1 at the Eden Prairie Community Center.

Langseth was Eden Prairie’s leading scorer last season but her presence was overshadowed by two upperclassmen: Ms. Hockey finalist and current Minnesota Golden Gopher Crystalyn Hengler and Alexa Dobchuk, the Minnesota girls’ hockey goaltender of the year who is now a freshman at Colgate.

First Report

Junior forward Sydney Langseth scored a pair of goals in Eden Prairie’s 3-1 home-opening victory over Rochester Lourdes at the Eden Prairie Community Center Thursday night.

Eden Prairie (2-0) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game as Langseth netted her first tally to get her team going. The Minnesota State-Mankato commit added her second of the game in the second period, giving Langseth six goals on this season to follow up her four-goal performance in Eden Prairie’s 6-3 win over Lakeville South last Saturday.

Eden Prairie, ranked No. 9 in the Class 2A coaches’ poll, got some insurance later in the second period when senior forward Becca Kniss converted a turnover into a goal to make it 3-1 Eden Prairie. Sophomore goaltender Molly Goergen made 20 saves and picked up the win.

Rochester Lourdes (2-1) came into the contest having yet to allow a goal this season.

Lourdes’ lone goal of the game came from the stick of senior forward Clara Billings who scored on the power play late in the first period. Junior goalie Corrin Hanson made 21 saves in the loss.
